Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design. He’s a lifelong educator, with 35 years of experience as a professor of landscape architecture and an extensive record of research in the areas of design theory, urban landscapes, forensic landscape architecture, and simulation and visualization. He was dean of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Forestry from 2017 to 2019, director of the Daniels Faculty’s Centre for Landscape Research from 2014 to 2019, director of the Daniels Faculty’s Master of Landscape Architecture program from 2011 to 2014, and, from 1999 to 2004, director of the University of Toronto’s interdisciplinary Knowledge Media Design Institute. In addition to his academic activities, Robert maintains a successful private landscape architecture practice, iz-design. He recently contributed site planning and landscape design to Laurentian University’s new McEwen School of Architecture building. The project won an OAA Award in 2018.

His company, Polytechnica, is currently developing data-based architectural and urban planning tools using GIS and BIM technologies. He is an adjunct professor at Portland State University and has just published his first book, titled “Composite Architecture: Building and Design with Carbon Fiber and FRPs” (Basel: Birkhauser Architecture). Before starting his own company, Quang was an architect with over 15 years of professional experience in the offices of Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Richard Meier, Steven Holl, Rick Joy, and Lever Architecture. He has designed and completed museums, skyscrapers, and high-end residences using advanced materials and technologies such as FRP composites, mass timber, and aerospace-specific parametric software. Quang is a licensed architect in the states of New York and Oregon. Quang received a Master in Architecture from Yale University and a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College, where he studied art and engineering.

Today, Christian works as one of the firm's Senior Principals and Managing Directors, and is Director of the African Design Centre, a field-based apprenticeship that is set to empower leaders who will design a more equitable, just, and sustainable world. At MASS, he has been involved with design/build projects, development initiatives, operational and administration leadership. Christian has been listed among 10 architects and designers that are championing Afrofuturism and 2017 Quartz Africa Innovators. He has authored articles and book chapters including Re-Thinking the Future of African Cities in The African Perspective Magazine and Creating Design Leaders: The African Design Centre in Public Interest Design Education Guidebook. Christian has taught at the Architecture School of the former Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and his goal is to develop the next generation of African designers with socially-focused design principles. Before joining MASS, he worked with LongiLat Architecture and Research in Shanghai assisting with the Porsche Center in Shanghai and the Netherlands Pavilion in the 2010 International Expo. Christian holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the School of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP) of Tongji University in Shanghai, China (2008), and has served as the Secretary General of the East Africa Institute of Architects.

In addition, he serves as a member of the firm’s corporate & commercial strategy team and a regional market leader in Asia. In these positions, Eric helps guide NBBJ’s global practice strategies. Eric’s work includes the design of corporate headquarters, large scale mixed-use developments, five star hotels, high-end residential buildings and higher education projects. His leadership is defined by a command of design excellence and passion for high quality delivery. As represented in his projects, Eric approaches his work with a rigorous and collaborative design process that is centered on ensuring that client aspirations connect directly with high performance design outcomes. In addition to his duties at NBBJ, Eric is an active participant in the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). He has also served as a visiting professor of architecture at Tongji University in Shanghai and adjunct professor of interior design at the Seattle Art Institute and Bellevue College. Eric is a frequent speaker at leading design events, conferences and summits throughout Asia. He has been a member of the advisory panel for Marcus Evans Asia since 2015.

Alex Josephson studied architecture at the University of Waterloo and in Rome. He co-founded PARTISANS in 2012 after dropping out of the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA). Alex is the only Canadian to have received the New York Prize Fellowship at the Van Alen Institute, he was named 2015 Best Emerging Designer by Canada’s Design Exchange. He currently lectures at the University of Toronto’s Daniels Faculty of Architecture. Alex is a registered architect in Ontario.
